Broad, slow, sure engine-deck hand Ferris sends on boarding/salvage runs to identify and cut the right parts ("you'll strip the galley and leave the gold"). Reads a derelict by its bones — hand flat to a wall, then points. On the derelict op he frames the feedstock matrix and the drive-control components; survives the defence-grid fight; helps weld the first salvage cradle onto the Endurance's hull (patchwork-hull begins).
