About
A young Centre survey-service lieutenant flying the light, over-instrumented survey sloop Pellan in the expedition convoy. At the first lane-crossing his sloop rides up too close in the grain-hauler Brask's drive-wash (the convoy near-miss Ackerman defuses,); he apologises for his spacing on the open channel. He survives two cold-lane folds across the cruise on a frightened boy's nerve (the shear, rolled into the wall on a Nhál officer's word, and lived). At the Causeway he is the first casualty of the seam war: Quint puts a kinetic through the Pellan at close range, holing it amidships; despite Cross's attempt to talk him through a keel-roll to the seam, the sloop comes apart.
