Highreach

A spinning wheel over the turning Earth, tiered by function, where a ship's crew climb out of the noise into the quiet and find that the quiet is where the decisions are. The dock levels give way to embassy decks, and the embassy decks give way to the Survey's floor, which flies no flags at all.

The books state distances aboard this ship. The drawing has to produce the same ones or it is wrong — so it is made to, and the working is shown. These run again on every build; a compartment moved by a metre fails them.

What this drawing does not decide

A blueprint that answered everything would be inventing. These are the things canon has not fixed and this sheet deliberately leaves for a book to claim.

  • Every radius, ring width and z on this sheet is the drawing's. Canon fixes the ORDER of the stack and never a dimension.
  • The spin rate and the gravity it produces are not stated anywhere and are not supplied here.
  • Ring count. Canon names the freight, Survey, chancery, Directorate, visitor and yard rings plus the embassy decks and the dock levels, and says a third ring is yard cradles. Whether that is eight rings or eight of a larger number is not established.
  • The chancery ring's position in the stack is inferred from the gap the published order leaves, not stated.
  • The hub, the spokes and the transit system that must connect these rings are drawn as a core because a wheel requires one; canon describes lifts, transits and ring boats but never the structure carrying them.
  • Sector arcs are the drawing's throughout. What is in each sector is published; where it sits around the ring is not, except the cargo hall, which canon puts on the spinward arc.
